Christopher Yax, owner, E-RYT 500
It all began with an idea back in 2005 when Chris and his two older brothers were wreaking havoc on their bodies through surfing and MMA fighting. They found yoga and quickly realized they were able to keep up with their active lifestyles without all the injuries. Flash forwards 21 years, and Chris is still at it… and added CrossFit and tennis to his long list of hobbies.

Christin Yax, owner, E-RYT 500
As a former classical ballet dancer, Christin connected with hot yoga right away. These days, yoga gets her through the daily stressors of residential contracting, extracurricular activities & raising two preteen girls. In her free time, Christin enjoys traveling with her family, reading, and fixing up her fixer upper home.
-

Marianne Winesett, instructor, E-RYT 500
While she grew up in TN, Marianne now calls Tidewater her home. Around town, she loves the Chrysler Museum, the Glass Studio & Prince’s Books. Marianne says she will never tire of learning as much as she can about yoga and exploring ways to reach as many people as she can to share this immense gift. Yoga is truly for every body and everybody.
-

Isabel Hoin, front desk, RYT 250
Isabel comes to us from Pennsylvania where she found & studied Baptiste yoga. Besides studying yoga in its many forms (somatic healing & trauma-informed), she writes poetry and lyrical essays, and loves any & all coffee shops in the Norfolk area.
-

Meg Leeman, instructor, E-RYT 200
Born & raised in Norfolk, Meg has been an instructor with HHY for years and loves riding her bike to the studio. She says that when life gets in the way, yoga is like that dearest & best friend that you haven't seen or talked to in ages, and as soon as you get together it feels like no time has passed and the love fest begins again without explanation or pause.
-

Amy Brittain, instructor, RYT 500
Amy loves sharing yoga with everyone, including little ones! She feels that yoga has taught her the importance of showing up, connecting with breath & being in the present moment. In her free time, she’s playing with her long haired dachshund, Bo, hanging at the Bay Oaks Park or enjoying some well deserved sushi & ice cream.
-

Melanie Salem, instructor, E-RYT 200
Melanie says she practices and teaches yoga because it offers a mind/body connection that allows her to practice present moment awareness and peace in her life. She met her husband here at HHY, and together, they have two adorable children - with one on the way - + one dog & a cat. Melanie’s fav place in Norfolk besides her wonderful home and the studio? The Botanical Gardens!
-

Rachel, instructor, RYT 200
Like many, Rachel feels that yoga has helped alter her brain chemistry and enjoys sharing that with others through teaching. What else does Rachel like to share? A meal at her fav restaurant in Norfolk - Luce. She also shares her home with her husband, two dogs, two cats, and yes, you guessed it… two snakes.
-

Jen Black, instructor, RYT 500
Jen says she practices yoga because her nervous system craves the balance of stillness within movement. When she’s not in the studio sharing the joy and freedom found in the practice, she enjoys time with her family, dancing & the color and beauty of the Neon District Murals.
-

Ally Fraser, instructor, RYT 500
This chemical engineer by day met her husband at Hot House Yoga as a student. Now as an instructor, Ally loves teaching yoga, saying it’s an opportunity to help people feel stronger—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally too. Along with her husband, she lives here in Norfolk with her three cats, Sol, Venus, & Star.
-

Annie Avery, front desk
This native of Norfolk has three years of yoga under her belt. If she’s not at the studio, you can find her hanging with her black lab, Pepper, at the beach with her friends or curled up with a good book.
-

Emily Wareing, instructor, RYT 200
A student for over a decade at HHY, Emily has recently turned her attention to teaching. She lives in Norfolk with her wife, four kids, rescue dog, two chihuahuas & a parrot. Besides teaching with HHY, Emily is a certified Reiki Master, nature lover & slightly obsessed with houseplants.
-

Ashley Webber, instructor, RYT 500
Ashley loves teaching, whether it be yoga or middle school, she is dedicated. She is also dedicated to her two children, her two Siberian Huskies & getting out into nature. Her fav natural paradise in Norfolk? The Botanical Gardens.
-

Jenna, front desk, RYT 200
Jenna has been practicing yoga for six years. When she’s not at Hot House Yoga Norfolk, you can find her playing with her Siamese cat, Maya, reading by the pool, or at her favorite restaurant in Norfolk, Grain.
-

Jen Outten, instructor, E-RYT 500
This Norfolk native has been teaching with us for the past decade. Besides teaching yoga, Jen enjoys spending time with her two rescue cats - Cecil Harrington and Pughsy DeVille - at Le Grand having one of their delicious burgers or manifesting her new home in the West Ghent area of Norfolk.
-

Ajee Church, front desk
When Ajee is not at the studio, you can find him making music as a high school chorus teacher, singer, and accompanist. Besides music, he loves the pagoda and the liveliness of downtown Norfolk, trying great food, spending time with friends, and getting outdoors.
-

Bebe Betancourt, front desk
Bebe fell in love with yoga in 2019 and hasn’t looked back. When she’s not at the studio - or studying to be a lawyer - she’s probably trying new restaurants with her husband, tending to her plants, or hanging with her beloved Frenchie.
-

Chase Elser, instructor, RYT 500
Besides HHY Norfolk, Chase loves the Elizabeth River Trail behind West Ghent, her vegetable garden, spending time with her family & fiancé and a Pelon’s fish taco after a yoga class! She enjoys teaching yoga because she wants everyone she knows to experience the physical, mental & spiritual benefits it brings.
-

Beth Hoffberger, instructor, RYT 500
Beth loves teaching yoga because it’s new & different every time, just like practicing. Both remind her that change is the only constant in this life and maintaining such perspective allows for expansion of one’s mind, heart & soul. Aside from sharing this at HHY Norfolk, Beth loves spending time with her husband and adult daughters, enjoying a delicious wood-fire pizza at Baker’s Crust or some fairly competitive Jenga.
-

Clairesse Reyes, front desk, CYT 200
Clairesse’s first class was in 2008, and she has loved yoga ever since. If she’s not at the studio, you can find her working with animals; at local coffee shops or spending time with her friends, family and fur-loves, Molly & Lilyanna.
-

Sally Magarity, instructor, E-RYT 500
Sally took her first class at HHY back in 2015 and has been hooked ever since! She loves working out but found that yoga offered more: a mind body connection, anxiety relief & a way to calm the mind. When she’s not working out or teaching yoga, she enjoys spending time with her growing family and refurbishing furniture.
